Yamaha Donates Instruments

Yamaha_storyMusic to Heal would like to thank Yamaha and Yamaha Cares for their generous donation of instruments! Lucky for us, the Yamaha headquarters is right here in Orange County. Matt was able to pick them up in person and meet the wonderful Carol Baker and Sandra Torres to express our gratitude. Their donation of silent instruments and keyboards will have a huge impact on the hospitalization experience of children at UCI Medical Center, CHOC, and Miller Children’s Hospital. To learn more about the instruments provided by Yamaha go to http://www.yamaha.com/Products/Strings.html?CTID=231300 . To learn more about Music to Heal or the programs it provides go to the What We Do link on our webpage. To help us acquire more instruments go to the Donate link on our webpage.

Running For Music

Jason Morton Running

Jason Morton is currently a Senior Music Education major at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. On Sunday, November 29, 2009, Jason Morton will be running in the Amica Seattle Marathon in Seattle, Washington. As a part of this marathon, Jason will not only be running for fun, but he will also be running to help raise money for Music to Heal.

Jason’s interest in long distance running began in August of 2007, after losing 45 lbs. in college. Since then, he has been running on a regular basis, averaging about 30-40 miles per week, and competing in races throughout the year. Jason ran his first 5K (Reindeer Dash for Cash, Greenville, NC) in December 2007, followed by his first half-marathon (Sony Ericsson City of Oaks, Raleigh, NC) in November 2008, where he finished in 1:38:56 and placed 176 out of 2,470.

From now until November 29th, Jason will be collecting pledges from friends, faculty, family, and other individuals to help benefit the organizational programming, projects, and operations of Music to Heal. If you are interested in making a pledge, donation, or assisting Jason in this effort, please feel free to contact him at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , where he will be able to provide you with further instructions.

As for what Jason has to look forward to until Seattle, this can be summed up in two words…more training. However, on Sunday, October 11, 2009, he will be competing in his second half-marathon, the Run for the Booty Half-Marathon in Greenville, NC. As for when it comes to the day of the race in Seattle, Jason aspires to complete the marathon in 3.5 hours, but more importantly, since it is his first marathon, he says he is just hoping to make it to the finish line!

Music To Heal Silent Auction BannerCall for auction items!

We are in the planning stage for our first "Silent Auction for Silent Instruments". The auction proceeds will benefit our "Adopt an Instrument" program which purchases Silent Instruments for in-patient use. This allows the patient to play or practice on their instrument without disturbing others around them. How can you help? We need all kinds of donated items which we can put into an auction on ebay. If you would like some ideas of what would make a good donation please email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Now Partnering with CHOC

nowplayingMusic to Heal is pleased to announce their partnership with the Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC).  Working with CHOC Child Life Specialist Emily Grankowski and CHOC Music Therapist Eric Mammen Music to Heal will furnish a musical instrument rental system in the hospital allowing patients to check out guitars and keyboards to freely use.  Patients will also be given the opportunity to have free musical lessons for instruments of their choosing.  Music to Heal’s iHeal program will also assign iPods to patients undergoing long-term treatment allowing them to pick and choose music to listen to while they are being treated at CHOC.  We here at Music to Heal hope that this is only the beginning of our work with CHOC.
